Type Specimen

There are 5 core composition types, most of which can get gridded.

Every piece gets assigned first a composition type, then a margin, then a grid type. There are some constraints. Articles can get any margin type, but they can’t be gridded. Type specimens, the most uncommon composition type, also can’t be gridded and can only have small margins.

MORE UNIVERSAL FEATURES

Every composition type except patterns can get a border.

Baselines can be blue, pink, white, or hidden.

Most compositions allow for any character type (curve, straight, thin, mixed) but occassionally a composition only allows one character type.

COLUMNS AND PULL QUOTES
Unique to Articles

Articles can have 1, 2, 3, or 4 columns.

Each article composition can have 0-5 “pulls”. These are either larger pull quotes, like in a magazine article, or a “pull character”.
